Critics’ Choice: Comparing N-Gage Review Scores

If you’re familiar with Gamerankings.com, you’ll know that is a Website that averages all the scores for a particular game from many different reviews, giving you a consensus of game reviews. Unfortunately that site doesn’t cover much in the way of mobile games, particularly N-Gage.

Enter the PocketGamer.biz N-Gage Quality Index. This new article on Pocket Gamer has handily assembled a critic’s consensus for all released N-Gage games, giving you a chance to see what all the reviewers thought of the N-Gage games at a glance.

Taking top spot is Reset Generation, which always seems to review very well, with Creatures of the Deep and Metal Gear Solid Mobile coming in neck and neck in a tie for a second place right behind it. Twenty other games are also scored on the same chart.

The author also averaged *all* of the star ratings from the N-Gage players who rated the game on their device, in what surely must have been a painstaking and exhausting task. Quite interesting results there too: ONE and Creatures of the Deep were tied for being the most popular N-Gage games of 2008, according to the star ratings.

Get the whole story here, and tell us what you think. Were the critics’ picks that much different from the community star ratings? What would you put on top?

What are the most eagerly anticipated N-Gage games for this coming year? According to this article on Pocket Gamer, they are Tomb Raider Underworld, Real Football 2009, Dance Fabulous, Mega Monsters, and Yamake.

For a different take, be sure to also check out the recent poll concluded on All About N-Gage, which asked the very same question. In that poll, the most anticipated games are Need for Speed Undercover and Prince of Persia Zero — as well as Worms World Party, although production on that game has been postponed.

So what do you think, agree or disagree? (For a list of upcoming N-Gage games, you can look at this blog post - although a few games on that list have since been released).

AAN Review of Crash Bandicoot

The first review that I’ve seen of the recently released Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D for the N-Gage platform has been posted over at All About N-Gage. This time the reviewer is Tzer2, who takes the game out for a spin. Here’s a snippet discussing the graphics:

“The courses are graphically rather spectacular for a phone game, and contain the massive jumps familiar from many cartoon racers. There are some very nice touches such as sea monsters that try to eat you while jumping, and the level scenery generates a nice coherent atmosphere.”

So what did you think of Crash? Remember, you can download a free trial that lets you play the tutorial and one quick race directly from the games tab within the N-Gage application, or else from our website’s game page.

Hello N-Gage fans, it’s good to be back and I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Here’s a quick roundup of some of the more noteworthy N-Gage news from the last week…with more to come soon, too!

Crash Bandicoot Races Onto N-Gage

In case you missed it — and shame on you if you did! — Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D was released during the holidays last week. Grab it from the N-Gage.com website here, or head on to the Showroom on your N-Gage application.

Resident Evil Reviews

Two reviews for the blockbuster action adventure Resident Evil: Degeneration have been posted. First up is All About N-Gage, who has this to say in their opening paragraph:

“It’s another big game for the N-Gage - Resident Evil: Degeneration - and with it comes a lot of expectation. Not from the dedicated N-Gager, but from the huge numbers of general public that will see the name of the game and expect a third person shooter, with lots of zombies, fast action and running around real world locations.”

Pocket Gamer also weighs in with their take. This is also from the introduction:

“The process of running through an airport, trying to avoid the grunting, mindless life forms that populate it in a bid to escape is not uncommon to most of us. In fact, going on holiday could be termed a ’survival horror’ episode of its own. So it might seem strange that we find ourselves playing an N-Gage game that appears to go with the above formula for fun.”

The Best N-Gage Games of 2008

What were the best N-Gage games of 2008? Was it Tetris, Poker, or Asphalt 3, as our sales charts suggest week after week? Were they recently released Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, or Crash Bandicoot? Or were they some of our other games?

Nok-Nok has posted their opinion, and they name three first party N-Gage games as their favorites for the year. Read which ones here, and then come back and tell us what were your three best for the year.

Happy Holidays & Two Years on the Blog

Today marks the two year anniversary of the official N-Gage blog. Quite a long time, and look how far we’ve come! Here’s our very first post, back from when we were called the Future Watch blog, in the waning days of the first generation. Now here we are a good time after launch, with a whole slew of great games available and even more to come in the coming year.

So now is a good time to sit back and reflect…and take some time for the holidays! That’s my way of saying I will be on vacation next week. I may pop in a couple times to approve comments, but don’t expect very many blog posts.

Happy holidays everyone!
