N-Gage vs. Apple’s App Store

Here is some interesting commentary about N-Gage compared to Apple’s game offering, by way of an iPod blog. They quote some mobile game publishers, who say:

“In many ways the N-Gage design reflects an insider’s view of how to solve the merchandising challenges that we have all seen in this business for so long,” says Greg Ballard, CEO of game publisher Glu Mobile. “It was like a bunch of us had gotten together and said, ‘Here, this is how it should be done,’” he comments.

This view is echoed by Javier Ferreira, Electronic Arts’ head of mobile publishing for Europe. Despite EA’s heavy presence in the iPhone world, the company is also heavily invested in N-Gage. “All the right pieces are in place from our perspective. We’re very excited about this platform. It is very difficult for this not to be successful,” says Ferreira.

What’s your take on the two services?

Many More Ways to Play
An update of the N-Gage application.

As part of our continuing evolution of the N-Gage service, we will periodically offer updates to the N-Gage application. We are pleased to bring you our first update.

Not only have we fixed some current issues, but have added a new device to the N-Gage compatibility list — the Nokia N85 – with more on the way!

One important fix, as spotted by our community, now enables your N-Gage Points total to exceed 10,000 points. Another important fix addresses an issue with having difficulties with the application when you approach fifty Player Names on your Friends List.

We encourage you to update your application software by following the instructions for downloading in the Get N-Gage section.

Note: The ‘Check for Updates’ function on your device may not show the update on all languages using that function until next week. Visit the Get N-Gage section of the Website or mobile site instead.

Complete release notes for this application update are available in the N-Gage Arena Support Forums.
